Purple Carrot Receives $4 Million Del Monte Investment

Meal kit company Purple Carrot received a cash boost from the produce company Del Monte, Bloomberg reported.

The organic grocer, which partners with NFL player Tom Brady, received $4 million from Del Monte, best known for selling bananas among other fruits and vegetables. While Purple Carrot is much smaller than competitors like Blue Apron, the company is on track for a $50 million annual revenue, according to Bloomberg.

While Blue Apron’s financial struggles since going public have been widely reported, there could be hope for other, more niche meal kits. Purple Carrot, which was founded in 2014, has benefited from the Brady partnership started in 2016. Obviously, Del Monte sees the promise in — maybe the Patriots — and deliverable vegan fare.
