Landlords Across Country Are Requiring Renters Insurance
by Natalie Daher
Buying renters insurance is often presented as an option for people who choose to be responsible. But you might not have a choice, according to new data from a property management firm.
About 46 percent of landlords are always requiring tenants to buy insurance study was conducted by Real Property Management, based in Salt Lake City. The remainder of landlords and property managers surveyed either sometimes have never required renters insurance (31 percent), sometimes require it (11 percent), or didn’t know (12 percent).
Around 550 property managers and landlords participated in the survey last fall. There was no geographic breakout of the data, Frogley said, which represents national trends. Real Property Management is the largest property management company of single family residences in the United States.
