Crowdfunded Headphones Want to Make You Put Your Phone Down
by Natalie Daher
The crowdfunded electronics brand Vinci has launched another campaign for “smart” headphones, advertising hands-free calls and an activity tracker.
The Vinci 2.0 headset, sold by Inspero Inc., has quickly attracted an audience through Kickstarter and Indiegogo and national press coverage. The Inspero team consists of engineers and designers, led by MIT alumni, and the most recent campaign has raised more than $888,000.
This headset, which will cost $199 at full retail ($99 for early birds), is also aimed at people who listen to music — from Spotify to Soundcloud — while working out. Along with the ability to receive push notifications, the new Vinci model features Wi-Fi connectivity, voice control and immersive 3D sound quality, and they support Amazon Alexa, according to a release. Colors include black, white, red or blue. The headphone’s battery life depends partially on cellular network among other factors.
