Apple is reportedly launching a virtual and augmented reality headset by 2020, according to CNET.

An Apple standalone virtual reality product would be a major investment for the Cupertino-based company, but other media outlets are skeptical. For instance, Gizmodo warned: “Take this all with a large grain of salt.” Apple hasn’t commented.

According to CNET, the product would include an “8K display for each eye,” to transport users to a virtual world with images crisper than a high-definition television.

The fairly nascent project would also build on Apple’s other investments in virtual reality technology. The company has gradually been incorporating virtual and augmented reality into its iPhone and iPad. Apple has also previously launched smaller AR projects for the MacBook.
