Experts like the stretchy quality of these sheets, which has a soft and cozy feeling on the skin. They are durable and the elastic band in the fitted sheet ensures they stay secure on a mattress. The sheets are not returnable, while the bamboo option goes through a heavy chemical production process.

Customers like these sheets for their comfy feel, and like that Purple gifts a set of the sheets with the purchase of a mattress. Some wish the individual sheet items could be purchased without buying a whole set. Others say that the sheets require an adjustment period for people who are accustomed to cotton sheets. The material may not suit everybody, and there are reports of it feeling too heavy and trapping heat.

Ideal for people:

Those who like a super-stretchy feel and restless sleepers who need a sheet that stays put during the night.

Not ideal for people:

Those who are sensitive to sheet weight might find these too heavy, and the unique material may not suit everyone's texture preference.

Notable Pros:
  • Soft and stretchy
  • Very comfortable
  • Stay put on mattress
  • Worth the price
  • Set comes free with a mattress purchase
Notable Cons:
  • Individual items not sold alone
  • Can be too stretchy
  • Feel thin
  • Can feel hot
  • Wear quickly
  • Unique material takes time to adjust to
  • Can feel heavy

Brothers Terry and Tony Pearce have been engineering lightweight cushion materials for wheelchairs and sporting goods since 1989. In 2013, the pair set out to design a mattress made entirely of their own patented foam, and two years later the Purple mattress was born. Today the brothers continue to expand their company with other sleep products beyond mattresses.

Heritage - 5/5

Purple is the latest technology venture from brothers and longtime inventors Tony and Terry Pearce. The two gained recognition in the early 1990s for innovating a lightweight cushioning material for wheelchair seats called Floam. Since then they have continued to develop durable, pressure-relieving foam products for a variety of consumer and medical markets.

Innovation - 5/5

Between them, the Pearce brothers have over 30 cushioning technology patents. They developed a machine called Mattress Max™ to make full-size mattresses out of their patented hyperelastic polymer, a strong and stretchy gel-like material.

Reliability - 4/5

The Purple website FAQs page addresses concerns regarding products, sizing, financing, and set-up. Customers can contact customer service representatives through live chat, email, and phone.

Social Good - 3/5

The company has not yet adopted a philanthropic mission.

Relevance - 5/5

Purple has high engagement on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Its social channels solicit reviews and customer feedback, promote products and giveaways, and post educational content on improved health through sleep. It is known for a viral "egg test" video, where a Goldilocks brand mascot tests if raw eggs on a Purple mattress crack under heavy glass (they don't).
